With slender bodies covered head-to-toe in a dense, camouflaged fur 11million years in the making, it's no wonder leopards are renowned the world over for their ability to evade detection. Their camouflage, made up of pale yellow fur with brown spots, allows them to effortlessly stalk their prey in a massive range of habitats, including forests, grassland savannas, deserts, woodlands, coastal scrubs, mountains, and swampy areas. But while its quarry, often smaller mammals and even fish, rarely spot leopards until it is too late, human beings have developed keen enough eyes to spot predators like the leopard.

A Dutch pensioner ended his life via euthanasia after he could not cope with the trauma he sustained in a brutal home robbery late last year, it has been revealed. Jan Beulenkamp, 77, suffered brain damage and a slew of other horrific injuries when he was violently attacked as he lay in bed at home in Liendenhof, Amsterdam-Zuidoost, in November. Shocking images from the aftermath of the assault showed the elderly Dutchman sporting horrendous bruises and lacerations across his face, neck and chest as he lay in a hospital bed.

California is sweltering under 'dangerously high temperatures', with the mercury set to rise to 117F and thousands of people evacuated as raging wildfires grip the state. The severe heat is only expected to get worse during the Fourth of July holiday week for parts of the United States, with nearly 90 million people placed under heat alerts across the country. The torrid conditions have been caused by a ridge of high pressure just off the West Coast and a separate ridge that spawned heat warnings and advisories from Kansas and Missouri to the Gulf Coast states, according to the National Weather Service.
