Older dogs and cats are sometimes surrendered to shelters for various reasons including financial challenges, relocation, or health issues. Yet sometimes families relinquish their pets due to typical signs of aging like incontinence or cognitive difficulties. This traumatic transition to a shelter leaves senior pets feeling abandoned and confused.

Babie the 15-year-old cat was recently brought to the Humane Society of Broward County when her lifelong family left her behind.

The TikTok from @humanebroward told Babie’s story and how she radiated a gentle spirit despite losing the only family she’s ever known.

“Babie was surrendered by her family because of her age and some normal signs of aging,” the caption explained. “But despite being a senior, she is still a sweet, loving girl who has so much life and love left to give.”

The pretty kitty clearly has a heart of gold and thrives on affection. While many cats in her circumstances would understandably be hesitant to trust, Babie longs for human interaction. “What breaks our hearts the most is how incredibly sweet Babie has been through all of this,” the story continued. “She seems completely unfazed by the changes around her and just wants to be loved. She enjoys cuddling, loves attention and will even have little conversations with you!”

Babie Deserves a Loving ‘Retirement’ Home

Shelter staff members are sharing Babie’s story in the hopes of finding her a true forever home.

“Babie should be enjoying her golden years in the comfort of a loving home, not waiting in a shelter for someone to give her another chance,” the caption noted. “We know adopting a 15-year-old cat isn’t for everyone, but we also know there is someone out there who would love to give this precious girl a soft bed, a sunny window and all the love she deserves for however many years she has left.”

The post concluded with a final plea to give Babie the second chance at happiness she deserves: “Please help us find Babie a loving retirement home. She has spent 15 years being someone’s companion, and we hope someone will open their heart and give her the same love and loyalty in return.”
