Dickinson, 29, also appears to be in hisLet It Beera as he whistles into a microphone while wearing a jean jacket andJohn Lennon's signature shoulder-length hair and wiry glasses. And, last but not least, a similarly long-haired Quinn, 32 gives a stern glance as he portraysGeorge Harrison.

The Sundance Film Festival's big moments and breakout movies

PARK CITY, Utah (AP) — Thelast Sundance Film Festivalin Utah is drawing to a close this weekend.

Associated Press Director Olivia Wilde speaks during the premiere of Channing Tatum, from left, Mason Reeves, and Gemma Chan attend the premiere of Charli xcx attends the premiere of Zoey Deutch, second from right, holds up a photo of absent cast member Jon Hamm as fellow cast members Tobie Windham, far left, and John Slattery, second from left, and director David Wain look on at the premiere of the film Billie Jean King attends the premiere of Natalie Portman attends the premiere of

2026 Sundance Film Festival - "The Invite"

The Park City gathering was a wistful farewell to the placeRobert Redford's brainchildhas called home for over 40 years and launched so many careers. Although the festival isn't ending — it will start anew inBoulder, Colorado, in 2027— it did have many, from filmmakers to volunteers, feeling nostalgic about the change whether their Sundance story began in 2022 or 1992.

A Wednesday night anniversary screening of "Little Miss Sunshine," still one of the festival's biggest hits, was an especially emotional affair as filmmakers Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, and actors Toni Collette, Greg Kinnear, Paul Dano and Abigail Breslin, gathered once more, 20 years later, at the festival's most famous and largest location, the Eccles Theater. Many in the audience had seen the movie and some had even been at the 2006 premiere. But a fair number were experiencing it for the first time and the response was rapturous.

"Who would have imagined that a singe film could deliver two electric nights at a Sundance Film Festival?" said festival director Eugene Hernandez.

It wasn't all looking back, however. The festival's program is first and foremost about discovery. First time feature filmmakers comprised about 40% of the slate. The programmers also wanted to do right by Park City.

"I feel like we achieved that based on what we've seen this week," said Sundance programming director Kim Yutani. "The enthusiasm for the artists that we have now shared with the world is significant. It's profound."

ICE and politics seep in

The festival wasn't a bubble to world events either. On the second night, a Florida Congressman wasassaulted at a partyby a man who told him he was going to get deported. ICE OUT pins were not an uncommon sight on major stars, like Natalie Portman, on the red carpet. And films like Daniel Roher and Charlie Tyrell's "The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist" (in theaters March 27) sparked conversations about the end of the world.

Memorable moments thanks to Charli xcx, Harry, Meghan and Billie Jean King

It also didn't stop people from having a good time. There was an all-night DJ'd party for the Charli xcx movie "The Moment" (in theaters this weekend) which had some out dancing until well after 3 a.m. The Billie Jean King documentary "Give Me the Ball!" had the audience erupting into spontaneous applause. (Afterward, King hit tennis balls into the balcony). Rufus Wainwright and Norah Jones sangMarianne Faithfullsongs after a screening of "Broken English." And the documentary "Cookie Queens," about Girl Scout Cookie season, was an audience favorite that also brought a surprise appearance byPrince HarryandMeghan, who executive produced.

Olivia Wilde's big comeback

Charli xcxmight have had Wilde beat in numbers with three films at the festival, but Wilde took the spotlight for sheer impact. She confidently carried Gregg Araki's comedic, and erotic, thriller "I Want Your Sex," as the provocative artist Erika Tracy, who initiates an affair with one of her interns (Cooper Hoffman), changing his life and views about sex in the process. But her bigger moment was"The Invite,"a sharp chamber dramedy about an unhappy and sexless San Francisco couple (Wilde and Seth Rogen) who invite their upstairs neighbors (Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton) over for dinner. Wilde directed the film, which quickly became a festival favorite, sparking a competitive, 72-hour bidding war. A24 emerged as the winner (reportedly in the range of $12 million) in the biggest acquisition of the festival so far.

A release date for "The Invite" has not yet been announced. "I Want Your Sex" has not yet been acquired for distribution.

The Channing Tatum drama everyone is talking about

One of the biggest hits was also one of the most challenging:"Josephine,"writer-director Beth De Araújo's raw drama about an 8-year-old girl (Mason Reeves) whose life and sense of safety is upended after she witnesses a sexual assault in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Tatum and Gemma Chan play the parents who are unsure how to help her navigate these new emotions and fears. It has not yet been acquired for distribution.

The queer horror breakout

Writer-director Adrian Chiarella's midnight movie "Leviticus" was scooped up quickly by the indie label Neon (of "Parasite" and "Anora" fame) in a reported seven-figure deal. The Australian coming-of-age thriller is about two teenage boys (Joe Bird and Stacy Clausen) trapped in conversion therapy horror. A critic for IndieWire wrote that it played like an episode of "Heated Rivalry" crossed with the psychological horror "It Follows." A release date has not yet been announced.

A documentary more than 50 years in the making

The footage that makes up the new documentary "Once Upon a Time in Harlem" was shot in 1972, when groundbreaking filmmaker William Greaves (who died in 2014) brought together the living luminaries of the Harlem Renaissance, poets, authors, librarians, photographers, critics and actors, to reflect on what it all meant, at a party at Duke Ellington's home. His son David Greaves did camera work at the party and co-directed and finished the film, a striking and essential historical artifact (and a good, intellectually stimulating hang). It has not yet been acquired for distribution.

Other buzzy titles

John Turturro got an enthusiastic standing ovation for his performance in "The Only Living Pickpocket in New York," a nostalgic crime thriller about a veteran pickpocket who steals from the wrong man, written and directed by Noah Segan.

There was lots of chatter about "Wicker," a quirky fantasy about a sardonic fisherwoman (Olivia Colman) who commissions a basket weaver to weave her a husband (Alexander Skarsgård), from filmmakers Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson.

David Wain's earnestly horny (and surprisingly gory) riff on "The Wizard of Oz," "Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass" was a starry, easy crowd pleaser, with Zoey Deutch, Jon Hamm and John Slattery. And Rinko Kikuchi got raves for her turn as a woman competing in the Tokyo ballroom scene in "Ha-Chan, Shake Your Booty."

All are still seeking distribution, but the end of the festival does not mean the end of those talks.

"There are many more deals happening," Yutani said. "The fact that these films are going to have these robust lives after their Sundance premieres is exactly what we want for these films. For them to reach wider audiences is definitely the goal."

Working atSaturday Night Liveis not for the weak, and even the most iconic comedians who worked on the show struggled with the high-pressure job.

Kristen Wiigrecently opened up about her own issues during her tenure on the NBC series, revealing that she even had a "breakdown" early on when she felt that she had run out of ideas for characters.

On the Jan. 21 episode ofLas Culturistas, hosted by fellowSNLalum Bowen Yang and comedian Matt Rogers, Wiig said that her third year — season 33, which aired in 2007-2008 — was particularly difficult because she felt that she "literally did every character I have."

Kristen Wiig on 'Saturday Night Live' NBC

"Three seasons in, [I was] having a breakdown being like, 'I've done every voice. I have nothing,'" Wiig, 52, remembered feeling.

Yang said he had the same experience during his second season when he realized he had done every character and sketch idea on the show that he used during his audition, and now had to start from scratch to come up with new ideas.

"That's how you feel," Wiig said. "And then that's that hump you get over with, also, the help of other people being like, 'Can you play blah blah blah?' And you're like, 'Well, we'll see.' And then you end up trying or doing it. It doesn't always work. And then you just like find new things."

While Wiig previously created characters by figuring out their voice first, she had to learn a different way during her third year on the show. "It became like physical," she added. "'Let's just do something that someone stands like this,' because I was like, 'I'm out of things to do.'"

Ultimately, that way of thinking led to her creating one of her fan-favorite characters, a woman at a 1920s party who repeatedly says, "Don't make me sing," while clearly dying to sing (watch the sketch in the video below).

Despite the pressures, Wiig also called her time on the show "career-wise, like best years of my life," and that being around herSNLcostars felt like "living with them" for seven years. She also learned that it was okay "to fail," which is "hard to do."

Wiig became a breakout star during her run onSNLfrom 2005 to 2012. She earned four Emmy nominations for her performances. After her exit, she returned to hostSNLfive times, most recently in 2024.

Journalist Don Lemon arrested after protest that disrupted Minnesota church service

WASHINGTON (AP) — Journalist Don Lemon has been arrested after he entered a Minnesota church and recorded anti-immigration enforcementprotesters who disrupted a servicein an incident that increased tensions between residents and the Trump administration, his lawyer said Friday.

Lemon was taken into custody by federal agents in Los Angeles, where had been covering the Grammy Awards, his attorney Abbe Lowell said.

It is unclear what charge or charges Lemon is facing in the Jan. 18 protest. The arrest came after a magistrate judge last weekrejected prosecutors' initial bidto charge the journalist.

Lemon, who was fired from CNN in 2023, has said he has no affiliation to the organization that went into the church and that he was there as a journalist chronicling protesters.

"Don has been a journalist for 30 years, and his constitutionally protected work in Minneapolis was no different than what he has always done," Lowell said in a statement. "The First Amendment exists to protect journalists whose role it is to shine light on the truth and hold those in power accountable."

Lowell added that "Don will fight these charges vigorously and thoroughly in court."

A prominent civil rights attorney and at two other people involved in the protest were arrested last week. Prosecutors have accused them of civil rights violations for disrupting a service at the Cities Church in St. Paul, where a local official with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement serves as a pastor.

The 60-second spot, called "Keg" and released Friday, Jan. 30, sees the trio suited up at a wedding. "Oo, what's that?" the comedian asks, gesturing towards Manning's pint of Bud Light. The former Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos star replies happily, "First beer of the wedding."

"Is there enough for everyone?" the singer asks somberly but Manning points out a keg headed their way.

Something goes awry and the keg spirals down a hill, causing the entire party to gasp and swarm the cliff. Malone holds Gillis back, saying, "I got this," before trudging towards the missing beer.

The keg flies down a steep, grassy hill, followed by the avid wedding guests while Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" plays dramatically.

The partygoers don't hold back, sprinting so quickly that they trip over themselves, somersaulting and bouncing down the hill. Bouquets disintegrate, older guests face-plant and the bride and groom hold each other as they roll towards the keg. The scene is reminiscent of the infamous annual cheese rolling events in Gloucestershire, England, when people race (and eventually tumble) down a hill in pursuit of a wheel of cheese.

Dust flies and bodies thud as the music cuts out and Gillis says, "Oh, oh! This is not necessary. There's a trail."

Fortunately, the violence seems to be worth it as they find and tap the keg.

Manning, Malone and Gillis reunite, with the sports commentator spitting dirt out of his mouth before saying, "Heck of a wedding, huh?"

"Hey, this is a great ceremony," Gillis congratulates the bride before looking at the camera and saying, "I give it a week."

The creator ofThe White Lotus,Mike White, said inan interview aired on HBO after the third season's finale, "For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the 'crashing waves against rocks' vernacular." Now, however, it appears the show will once again be returning to a coastal town — and, likely as not, to the mystery structure it established in the first season, with a flash forward revealing that someone at the hotel is dead. "There's always room for more murders atThe White Lotushotels," White teased in the same interview.

Since its first season debuted in 2021,The White Lotushas become an Emmys darling, with 66 nominations across the board and wins for stars like Jennifer Coolidge and Murray Bartlett. This year, itdominated the acting categories at the Emmys, with eight of its Season 3 actors nominated, including Carrie Coon and Parker Posey. It did not take home any Emmys for the third season, save for a Creative Arts Emmy for its main title theme music.

It's unclear how, exactly, previous seasons of the series will tie into the fourth season, but it certainly ended on a dramatic note, with multiple people dead at the luxurious Thai resort. Whether the new cast will have to deal with as much violence while trying to get some R&R remains to be seen.

The Westminster dog show is turning 150. Here's what has — and hasn't — changed over time

NEW YORK (AP) — When some Gilded Age gentleman hunters organized a New York event to compare their dogs, could they have imagined that people would someday call it the World Series of dogdom or theSuper Bowl of dog shows?

Westminster Dog Show-150th

Of course they couldn't. The World Series and the Super Bowl didn't exist. Nor, for that matter, did the Brooklyn Bridge or the Statue of Liberty.

But the Westminster Kennel Club's dog show did, and still does. With the 150th annual show set to start Saturday, here's a then-and-now look at the United States' most famous canine competition.

"The trappings, the window dressing, you know, changes over time. But what's at the core, what's the heart of it, which is the love of dogs ... that has been the same," says club PresidentDonald Sturz.

It comes from the Westminster Hotel, where the show's founders liked to belly up to the bar and brag about their dogs. The hotel is long gone. The moniker stuck.

The club's "First Annual New York Bench Show of Dogs," in 1877, was no small thing. It featured about 1,200 dogs of a few dozen breeds, ranging from pugs to mastiffs. They included an English setter valued at $5,000, at a time when an average laborer in New York made about $1.30 a day. The Associated Press reported that "the bulldogs are represented by a number of noticeable delegates," and a family of "Japanese spaniels" was "highly amusing."

It wasn't the first U.S. dog show, but it wowed and endured. Among U.S. sporting events, only theKentucky Derby has a longer historyof being held every year.

This year's Westminster show boasts 2,500 dogs, representing as many as 212 breeds and 10 "varieties" (subsets of breeds, such as smooth vs. wirehaired dachshunds). Some likely hadn't made it to the U.S. in 1877. Others didn't exist yet anywhere.

But many are much the same as they were in Westminster's early days, Sturz says. Some details — the length of muzzles, the thickness of coats — have shifted in this breed or that, and better canine nutrition may have led to "a little bit more size, or a little more bone" in some, he said.

Today, all the canines have champion rankings in a formalized sport with a complicated point system and official "standards" for judging each breed. They compete for best in show, a trophy that Westminster added in 1907. Earlier shows had no overall prize.

Hundreds of other dogs now vie for separate titles in agility and other sports, which kick off this year's show on Saturday.

When Westminster started, the dogs weren't the only ones with a pedigreed air.

"Everybody was fashionably dressed and wore an air of good breeding," The New York Times said of the 1877 show — and the paper was talking about the spectators, not the animals. Not to be outdone, some canines also were gussied up in lace collars and ribbons.

Over the years, the event drew entries from foreign royals, American tycoons and modern-day celebrities including Martha Stewart andTim McGraw. A decades-long list of pro athletes have cheered on their animals, from baseball'sLou GehrigandBarry Bondsto the NFL'sMorgan Fox.

Westminster has carried a whiff of bygone, clubby gentility into the 21st century — handlers wear suits and dresses, upper-round judges black tie — and the competition is hardly casual. Many top contenders come in with hired professional handlers and a show record built on near-constant travel, with buzz built through dog-magazine ad campaigns.

Still, many people handle their own dogs and work or are retired from policing, medicine, the military, corporate jobs or other fields. Some of the animals also have jobs, includingbomb-sniffing and search-and-rescue.

"It's an elite event, but it's one that we want everyone to feel that they can access and be a part of," says Sturz, a clinical psychologist and retired school district superintendent.

Westminster debuted at Gilmore's Garden, a precursor to today's Madison Square Garden. Nearly every subsequent show has been in some iteration of the building, even after part of it collapsed and killed four people, including a Westminster official, shortly before the 1880 show. Next week's semifinals and best-in-show finals, set for late Tuesday, will be held in the present-day Garden.

From the start, the show has drawn thousands of spectators in person — and many more on TV since the late 1940s, with still more via streaming.

Of course, that's not the only way Westminster has been portrayed on-screen.

Yes, we're talking about "Best in Show," director-writer-actor Christopher Guest'scult-classic 2000 mockumentaryabout obsessives and oddballs competing at the fictional "Mayflower" dog show in Philadelphia. Guest attended Westminster during his extensive research for the film.

Is it really like that? As with any satire: sort of. Circulate at Westminster, and you'll certainly see some wound-up people primping and presenting animals, but you'll also see some competitors cheering for each other, sharing expertise and playing with cherished pets.

Show folk had mixed feelings about the movie. But it helped expand Westminster's audience, says David Frei, whohosted the show broadcast from 1990 to 2016.

"They didn't make fun of the dogs," Frei said. "They just made fun of the people."

The protests

As Westminster's prominence grew, it became a magnet for complaints that dog breeding puts looks ahead of health. As far back as 1937, some show-goers questioned whether collies' narrow heads and long noses were healthy, according to an AP story at the time.

In recent years, animal welfare activists have sometimesinfiltrated the ringordemonstrated on the sidelines. This year, PETA has put up billboards near the venues about thebreathing problems of flat-faced dogs, and oxygen-tank-carrying supporters plan to demonstrate outside.

"Westminster has had countless opportunities to evolve, yet it clings to an outdated obsession with aesthetics," a PETA staff writer said in a recent op-ed distributed by the Tribune Content Agency.

Sturz said the club "has a longstanding history of showing its commitment to dog welfare."

He notes that the organization has donated to veterinary scholarships, pet-friendly domestic violence shelters, rescue groups and other canine causes. Those ties go all the way back to 1877, when some proceeds from the first Westminster show helped the nation's oldest humane society, the ASPCA, build its first shelter.

USA TODAY TV Critic Kelly LawlergaveSeason 4 ★★ out of four, writing "it was always going to be a challenge to adapt the second Bridgerton son's story for the Netflix series, and that's not even including how many fansthink the character should be queer."

"And when you look at the plot of his story from the Julia Quinn novels from which the smash series takes its narratives, the show's writers were presented with a further challenge: How do you take a literal Cinderella story and make it interesting for audiences who have been hearing 'bippity boppity boo' since preschool?" Kelly continued. "The answer, seemingly, is the sometimes fun but often deeply frustrating fourth season of 'Bridgerton.'"

Here's what to know about Season 4, Part 2 of "Bridgerton," including the release date and cast information.
