Attorney GeneralPam Bondisaid the Department of Justice will be appealing the 'woefully insufficient' sentencefor the would-be assassin of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. A Maryland federal judge sentenced Sophie Roske of Simi Valley, Calif., on Oct. 3 to eight years in prison for flying across the country to Kavanaugh's house with a gun and other weapons. Federal prosecutors were seeking "at least 30 years to life." "The attempted assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was a disgusting attack against our entire judicial system by a profoundly disturbed individual," wroteBondi in a post on X. "@TheJusticeDeptwill be appealing the woefully insufficient sentence imposed by the district court, which does not reflect the horrific facts of this case." She said she had been undergoing therapy and said she realized that violence is not the solution. Roske was upset about a leakedSupreme Court draft decisionoverturning the right to abortion. As part of aguilty plea, Roske admitted that on June 7, 2022, she flew from Los Angeles International Airport to Dulles International Airport with a firearm and ammunition in a checked suitcase,according to DOJ. Roskie arrived at Kavanaugh's home with a gun, ammunition, pepper spray, zip ties, a hammer, screwdrivers, duct tape and other items.
