For the first time in history, the United States will soon have 13 female governors serving at the same time — a considerable feat in a nation whose executive roles have long been male-dominated. The share of women leading U.S. states has gradually increased in recent elections. For about 15 years, the record was nine women governing at the same time. After the 2022 midterms, when women led major party tickets in 20 of the 36 gubernatorial races, the new record became 12 women serving concurrently.
