Josh Kerr stepped on to the track in golden spikes – then delivered a defiant message to his gold-medal rival. Wearing his new custom-made shoes and his trademark shades, the world champion was the coolest man at the sold-out Stade de France as he won his 1500 metres heat on the opening morning of athletics at the Paris Olympics. Kerr's time of 3min 35.83sec was quicker than Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who finished third in his heat in a time of 3:37.
