SOME Americans could make some extra cash from a $1 million settlement pot.

A direct payment will be sent out to qualifying claimants due to a class action lawsuit filed against an employee-owned publishing company.

The payments come from a class action lawsuit against a publishing company[/caption]

Charter Financial Publishing Network, which owns and operates Financial Advisor and other publications, was accused of sharing subscriber information with third parties without consumer consent, per Top Class Actions.

The action allegedly taken by the publishing company violates Michigan privacy laws, specifically the Preservation of Personal Privacy Act.

That means affected residents could benefit.

Charter Financial Publishing Network has not admitted any wrongdoing in the case.

It instead agreed to a $1 million settlement to resolve the claims from plaintiffs.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligible claimants must meet at least three crucial criteria to get their equal share of the settlement pot.

First, they must have been subscribed to any one of Charter Financial Publishing Network's brands before July 31, 2016.

They must've secondly had their information disclosed by the company without their consent between April 25 and July 30, 2016.

Most importantly, those who file a claim in the settlement must be Michigan residents or have been Michigan residents at the time of the alleged "shared information" incident.

FILING A CLAIM

Those who believe they are eligible and intend to file a claim must do so through the settlement website.

From there, a claim form can be filed digitally or printed off and mailed.

An address is listed on the site for the settlement administrator.

Some qualifying claimants may have already received a notice in the mail about the Charter Financial Publishing Network settlement and were given a class member ID.

They do not need to file a claim online or through the mail.

A check from the settlement will automatically be sent to the same address as the notice.

DEADLINES AND PAYMENT

All eligible claimants who did not get a notice in the mail must file a form by a set deadline of June 12, 2024 to get money from the settlement pot.

To exclude or object in the case, notice must be given to the settlement administrator by May 19.

Claimants should also note that a final approval hearing for the settlement is slated for June 26.

That means it could be a bit before payments are sent out.

The estimated distribution amount per eligible class member is $275.

Still, the money could vary depending on the number of participating affected parties.

It's likely a check will get to consumers by the end of the year at the latest.
