Zach and Tori Roloff's son Josiah's 2nd birthday got off to a rocky start.

"Today has been a doozy and I feel like it's times like these that God is telling us all to slow down," Tori began a lengthy Instagram Story message on Monday, April 29. "We ended up at urgent care to help get Zach some relief from sickness."

Though Tori, 31, didn't specify the type of illness Zach, 33, was dealing with, she did share that she suffered an injury of her own. "Our floors are being reinstalled and within 20 minutes of being home I threw my back out bad and can't move currently because I was trying to move furniture on my own," she explained.

The former TLC personality stated that she was feeling "guilt about tomorrow and how Josiah will (or if) he'll remember it," adding, "But I'm just praying he feels loved and celebrated." Tori also shouted out some friends who helped decorate their home for Josiah's big day. "I know he will feel a little more loves because of you three!!" she gushed.

Tori's life update was accompanied by a photo of presents for Josiah placed on their kitchen island, along with a truck-themed "Happy Birthday" sign and a No. 2 balloon. Earlier on Monday, Tori shared dozens of adorable Instagram Story photos of Josiah over the years, writing, "I can't believe this dude is going to be two tomorrow."

Tori later confirmed via Instagram that she and Zach were still under the weather for Josiah's birthday on Tuesday, April 30. "This birthday doesn't look the way I thought it would this year. Mom and dad are sick," she wrote in a sweet birthday tribute for their youngest child. "Mom threw out her back. And the house is torn apart to finish repairing the broken pipe we had. But Si guy we love you so much bigger than today and we will celebrate properly ASAP."

Zach and Tori tied the knot in 2015 and went on to welcome kids Jackson, 6, Lilah, 4, and Josiah in 2017, 2019 and 2022, respectively. After many years of sharing their family's lives on TLC's Little People, Big World, the couple and their kids appeared in their final episode of the reality series on April 23.

Zach's latest health scare comes one year after he underwent an emergency brain surgery in February 2023. "Zachary had an emergency shunt revision this morning," Tori shared via Instagram at the time, alongside photos of Zach in a hospital bed. "It's been a scary 72 hours but he is doing well and recovering!!"

LPBW's Zach and Tori Roloff's Relationship Timeline

Earlier this year, Tori revealed that Zach "almost died" from the incident during a February episode of their "Raising Heights" podcast. "I get woken up that morning at 2 a.m., 4 a.m. and this nurse goes, 'Your husband's getting moved to ICU.' I fled in a panic to [the] ICU," she recalled. "And when I got to you — Zach was there yelling my name and so I'm like, 'Oh, my gosh, he's dying, like, this is it. We need help right now.' … I was just preparing myself for the worst because I had no idea what was going on."

Zach explained that he had a shunt in his head since he was a child and went to the hospital after experiencing severe headaches. "I really feel like with spinal stuff, fluids, shunts and of those issues, the brain, headache, the idea of a migraine … it's hard to pinpoint sometimes," he stated. "We're [coming] up on a year on that and I haven't had a migraine since then."

STEPHEN A. Smith thinks LeBron James' success in Los Angeles is over.

LeBron just finished his sixth season with the Lakers, and four years removed from his last NBA Finals win, Stephen A. thinks he isn't winning another in Los Angeles.

The Lakers lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Nuggets 4-1[/caption]

The Lakers fell to the Nuggets 4-1 in the opening round of the playoffs after winning in the Play-In Tournament.

Los Angeles finished 47-35, a weaker finish in the LeBron era, and Stephen A. doesn't think it is going to get any better.

"I believe if he wants to win he's going to have to go somewhere else," Stephen A. said.

"They're limited in what assets they can acquire in order to get the help he needs when i take into account the balance of power in the Western Conference."

Stephen A. explained that he doesn't think that LeBron can't win another title in his career, but that the Lakers won't help him get there.

"It's not a knock against LeBron in terms of his ability," Stephen A. said.

James had a great run during the opening round of the playoffs, scoring more than 25 points in every game.

He averaged 27.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 8.8 assists in this year's playoffs.

Clearly, James was doing his part, but the team around him struggled to find success.

"When you look at the rest of the parts that they have, it's not that they can't play , it's that they're inconsistent against models of consistency in the West," Stephen A. said.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

NBA fans agreed that the Lakers chances for the future were probably done, and gave suggestions on where LeBron could go next.

"He's not winning another ring period," one fan said.

"LeBron James and Kevin Durant need to take their talents to South Beach. End their careers with the Miami Heat," another fan said.

"Lebron is washed up he will not win a ring anymore," a third fan said.

"Join the nuggets on a vet minimum we'll take that," a fourth fan said.

There is a chance that LeBron ends up with a new team in the 2024/25 season, according to Brian Windhorst.

On ESPN's Get Up, Windhorst said he believes James will test free agency.

"I think LeBron intends to opt out of his contract and become a free agent for the first time since 2018," Windhorst said.

James has expressed a desire to play with his son Bronny in the NBA, and could go to whatever team signs or drafts him.

DAVID MOYES has been the subject of a sensational approach from Spartak Moscow, it's been claimed.

The Scot's future at West Ham has been up in the air for several months.

Spartak Moscow have made a shock approach for the Scot, according to reports[/caption]

There are strong suggestions that the veteran gaffer will leave the London Stadium at the end of the season.

And according to reports, he could find himself in the dugout at the Otkritie Arena next season.

That's according to The Daily Mail, who claim Spartak have inquired about his "availability" in recent weeks.

The Russian outfit are on the hunt for a new manager following their decision to relieve Guille Abascal of his duties earlier this month.

And it's claimed they have identified Moyes as a potential successor to the Spaniard.

Moyes, however, is said to be "reluctant to commit" to the Moscow club at this moment in time.

Moyes' contract with the Hammers is set to expire at the end of the season.

The former Manchester United manager is set to hold talks with club owners after the campaign draws to a close.

David Moyes refused to be drawn on his future at the London Stadium[/caption]

A decision over his future is expected to be made during the post-season chat.

Moyes has refused to be drawn on his future, saying after his troops' 2-2 draw with Liverpool last weekend: "I've always said we'll make a decision at the end of the season.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

"I want things to be right on both sides and I'm quite cool about the whole thing at the moment.

"The team are showing up and doing the job."

Moyes' sole focus at this moment in time is trying to pull off the Hammers' Mission Impossible to qualify for the Europa Conference League.

He said: "Our points total is a good total for West Ham, if you look at our totals over all the Premier League years.

"We'll keep banging at the door.

"We finish with a really tough game at Manchester City so the next two games we'll look to get something.

"Today keeps us in the hunt."

West Ham will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, travelling to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea.

DENVER Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr. hasn't been afraid to give back to his parents who helped him reach the NBA.

Porter Jr. gifted cars to his mom and dad during his first two seasons in the NBA.

The Nuggets selected Porter Jr. with the No. 14 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

He signed a rookie contract with Denver that earned him about $2.5 million in 2018.

In that same year, Porter Jr. bought his mom, Lisa, a 2018 Ford Flex.

The NBA star posted an Instagram clip of himself gifting the SUV to the mother.

Both hugged each other as Lisa went inside the Ford SUV.

And Porter Jr.'s generosity didn't stop there.

In 2020, Porter Jr. surprised his dad, Michael Porter Sr., with a Tesla Model Y for Christmas.

A video showed the moment when Porter invited his dad outside through his garage.

The door opens and Porter Sr. sees the Tesla as he thinks it's his son's car.

But Porter Jr. says "Merry Christmas" to which the father realizes the electric SUV is for himself.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

Porter Sr. can be heard saying "Man, you didn't have to do this" to which his son answers back, "I didn't have to but I wanted to."

Less than a year later, Porter Jr. would receive a reward for his services from the Nuggets.

In September 2021, Denver signed Porter Jr. to a five-year, $172 million rookie extension.

They made the deal after the Missouri product averaged 19 points per game in the 2020 campaign.

In 2021, Porter Jr. only played in nine games and missed the rest of the season after undergoing back surgery.

Better days would be there for Porter in the 2022-23 season as he helped the Nuggets win their first NBA title in its history.

He also played in 81 games this season, posting 16.7 points per game along with an average of seven rebounds and 1.5 assists.

Porter Jr. averaged 22.8 points per game in Denver's first-round series win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

So far, Porter Jr. has made $79 million in career earnings.

DEVIN HANEY'S dad has accused Ryan Garcia of "cheating" to victory.

Garcia dropped Haney three times on the way to a stunning upset in New York.

Ryan Garcia stunned Devin Haney to a defeat[/caption]

But the build up was marred in controversy, hitting new heights when Garcia came in 3.2lb over the 140lb limit.

It meant the American superstar forfeited his chance to win Haney's WBC super-lightweight title.

But Garcia did gain a weight advantage while agreeing to pay the champion a financial compensation.

Now, Haney's father, trainer and manager Bill appears to have suggested Garcia came in overweight on purpose.

He told BoxingScene: "That's calculated. That's cheating."

Garcia agreed a handshake wager with Haney Jr and Sr to pay $500,000 for every lb he scaled overweight.

And on weigh-in day, both teams claimed a $1.5MILLION fine had been honoured.

Instead, Bill is understood to have negotiated $600,000 from Garcia's purse plus two per cent of his pay-per-view bonuses.

Haney, 25, was a huge favourite heading into the fight having had a superior record, with titles in two divisions.

And Garcia, 25, looked to be suffering with a public meltdown after several online rants, fake marriage proposals and boozy nights out.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

But he pulled off a remarkable and almost unthinkable performance to stun Haney to a first career defeat.

Bill added: "We went against everything that's wrong with boxing.

"[Devin] followed the rules. Got knocked down. Got up again and again, and fought like the champion he still is.

"He proved he was a warrior, and now life goes on."

Garcia, who had six bouts with Haney in the amateurs winning three of them, is renowned for his left hook.

And Bill admitted failure to prevent the shot from landing – as early as the first round – is what proved to be his son's downfall.

<p class="article__content--intro"> The history dates back well before the Brooklyn brawl. </p> </div> </div>

He said: "Initially getting hit with it, I don't think [Devin] recovered. Getting caught early was a recipe for disaster.

"The left hand, we had a plan for it because it's Ryan's money punch."

Haney has kept his WBC belt after Garcia's failure to make weight but the contract did not include a rematch clause.

The beaten champion uploaded a picture bumping into Garcia's promoter Oscar de la Hoya just days after his brutal defeat.

Meanwhile, Garcia has enjoyed a victory tour, including a meet with former president Donald Trump.

RAFAEL VAN DER VAART took a surprise shot at Erik ten Hag on Dutch television yesterday when he said the manager "Is doing his best to become available".

It came as former Real Madrid and Spurs star Van der Vaart discussed Ajax's managerial options with former Barcelona and Stoke winger Ibrahim Afellay.

Ajax have had a disastrous season and find themselves fifth in the Dutch league.

When discussing how to rectify the club's situation, Afellay said: "Ajax need to give the club back in the hands of trusted people.

"If they just wait a little longer, there is a big chance Erik ten Hag will become available."

Van der Vaart then cheekily added: "Well, Erik ten Hag himself is doing his best too to become available."

The comment comes as Ten Hag finds himself coming under increasing pressure at United.

His position has been insecure since Sir Jim Ratcliffe's investment in Manchester United, with Ratcliffe refusing to publicly back Ten Hag.

Saturday's 1-1 draw with relegation battlers Burnley leaves United in sixth, one point ahead of Newcastle with the two teams still to play each other.

Should they be overhauled by the Geordies, United will be facing Europa Conference League qualification at best through the league.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

They could still secure a Europa League spot if they win the FA Cup, but even reaching the final of that competition was achieved in embarrassing fashion.

The club gave away a three goal lead to Championship Coventry in the semi-final and needed penalties to reach the final.

Dutch reports claim that Erik ten Hag is Ajax's top target should he leave United at the end of this season.

Ten Hag had a wildly successful spell in charge in Amsterdam between 2017 and 2022 where he won the Dutch league three times and reached the Champions League semi-final in 2019.

It comes as United are reportedly considering both England boss Gareth Southgate and former Chelsea boss Graham Potter should the club part ways with Ten Hag at the end of the season.

Jason Kelce has become a major personality[/caption]

It's no surprise that he's been much sought after by broadcasters.

And he's joining up with the popular ESPN show for the new season, alongside host Scott Van Pelt.

Marcus Spears and Ryan Clark are expected to retain their seats on the show.

However, there are reports that Robert Griffin III's role on MNF is in question.

Despite that, Griffin took to X, the site formerly known as Twitter, to welcome Kelce to ESPN.

He posted a picture of Kelce's infamous shirtless celebration, with beer can in hand, which was taken as he watched brother Travis and his Kansas City Chiefs take on the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round of the playoffs in January.

"Welcome to the Team Brother! @JasonKelce This should 100% be the next statue in Philly," Griffin wrote.

Jason will have impressed TV executives with his appearances alongside brother Travis on their New Heights podcast.

It has been reported that there was also interest from a number of other broadcasters, including NBC, CBS, and Amazon Prime Video.

There is no word whether occasional guest host Larry Fitzgerald will continue to make appearances on Monday Night Football.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

It's been a brilliant week for ESPN, capturing Kelce so soon after landing Bill Belichick.

The legendary former New England Patriots head coach is going to make weekly appearances on The Pat McAfee Show on Mondays.

Fans reacted with delight to Belichick's appearance with McAfee during coverage of last week's NFL Draft.

Belichick will also be a frequent guest on Payton Manning's Manningcast during Monday Night Football.

Center Kelce was in tears when he announced he was retiring from football following the 2023 season.

"I am very proud knowing where I was once was and the legacy I have left behind," he said.

"Some people struggle to play in this city. I considered it a blessing to play in the most passionate sports town in America.

"Thank you Philadelphia, for letting me represent this city."

Kelce led the Eagles to their most famous-ever triumph in 2018.

He was part of the team that beat Belichick's Patriots in Minneapolis to win a first-ever Super Bowl for Philadelphia.

It is believed he made the decision over fears he could be targeted once more if he went ahead with the move.

A source explained: "Palani was furious over the attack.

"Basically, Palani wanted to mix with other prisoners, but once he was allowed to do so, Penrose took a real disliking to him.

"Penrose led the attack but was supported by three others. Palani wanted to press charges and made that quite clear but now he's done a full 180 and isn't any more.

"Who knows why, but it could well be he's scared if he did, he'd be targeted again."

It is understood the incident is still under investigation but may not progress without Palani's cooperation.

Penrose, who was isolated after this incident, is one of Ireland's most dangerous and volatile prisoners who has been disciplined over 100 times behind bars.

He is serving a life sentence for the murder of his friend Philip Finnegan in Rahin Woods near Edenderry, Co Offaly, in 2016.

He had previously served nine years for killing David Sharkey in another knife attack in Navan, Co Meath, in 2009, for which he was convicted of manslaughter.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

The Irish Sun has also learned Palani has been moved onto C base.

However, sources say he passes his days doing "nothing" as he serves a double life sentence for the brutal murders of two gay men Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee in Sligo in 2022.

Palani targeted his victims because of his hatred of homosexuality, but gardai believe he himself was gay.

He first attacked brave Anthony Burke, 50, in Sligo in the early hours of April 9, 2022, plunging a knife into his eye.

Burke survived but crazed Palani claimed his first murder with Mr Moffitt, 42, on April 10 after the businessman had left The Village Inn and met his killer at his home at Cartron Heights.

Evil crimes

Palani spent 59 minutes inside the property, where he decapitated Mr Moffitt and left his head on the bed of the bedroom and his body remained on the floor.

Mr Moffitt's friends, who had become concerned for him, made the gruesome discovery the following day.

Mr Snee, 58, was discovered dead in his bedroom two days later at his home at City View, Connaughton Road, Sligo.

Palani left a picture frame over his face as the victim's corpse lay on the floor of his bedroom. Two knives had been laid on the bed in the shape of a cross.

Following both of the murders, Palani – who had befriended his victims on social media – cycled to his local mosque where he prayed during Ramadan.

In an interview with the Irish Sun two years on from the incident earlier this month, Burke – who was left with one eye – branded Palani a "monster" and a "coward".

He told us: "We all know why he did it. He couldn't handle that he was gay. I have nothing to say to him."

Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather said: "Some showers in the North this morning with a lot more cloud around and more showers expected to push in from West later.

"Over 5mm of rain in parts of South over next 24 hours but much less elsewhere."

Met Eireann's Michelle Dillon warned rain is set to hit and it will be "a little cooler" for the next few days and for the weekend.

Highest afternoon temperatures will generally be around 8C to 12C with "chilly nights".

This morning will bring a "good lot of dry weather" and some brighter spells in the east and the south.

But "a scattering of showers" will develop in the north and for the west.

A cloud from the Atlantic "will be moving in across the country".

The forecaster said: "Then later in the morning and into the afternoon we'll see that more general showery outbreaks of rain moving in from the west, becoming heavier times and the west and the southwest.

"And later too more generally across southern parts when it will become drier and brighter further to the north."

Highest temperatures will reach 8C to 12C.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

Tonight will bring "lingering rain" in southern parts.

And it will be cold with some showers near northern coasts.

Temperatures will plummet to 0C to 5C with a "touch of grass frost".

Tomorrow will see a mix of sun and showers with temperatures between 8C to 11C.

She added: "Then a cooler with a mix of sunshine and a scattering of showers through Friday and the weekend."

Friday night will be dry but "some frost will set in" with lowest temperatures of -1C to 3C.

Saturday will have a mix of "sunny spells and scattered April showers" with highest temperatures of 8C to 12C.

It will be "dry and chilly on Saturday night" with lows of -1C to 2C.

Sunday will see "general falls of rain moving in off the Atlantic during the day".

It will stay "fairly cool" with highest temperatures of 9C to 12C.

THE mother of a little girl seriously wounded in last year's Parnell Square attack have said she has reached "great milestones" as she continues to recover in hospital.

The child, aged five, was readmitted to intensive care in January after a "bump in the road" interrupted improvement in her condition – but she has made strides in her recovery since.

She had initially been admitted to the ICU at Temple Street Children's Hospital following the knife attacks in Dublin on November 23, but was deemed well enough to leave before Christmas.

At the start of this year, the child had "entered the third phase of her recovery" and a medical team was "very happy with her improvement" before the unexpected "setback" in late January.

Her family has been providing updates on her condition through a GoFundMe online since last year.

Taking to the platform with an update yesterday, her mum hailed the child as her "little big warrior" after the horrific ordeal she faced in November.

The doting mum said: "Hi there, great milestones for our little big warrior – she has started on feeds now (not orally yet) and moving her arms a good bit.

"She is enjoying her Irish lessons with the Hospital School. And loves watching Paddington one and two for laughs.

"Huge achievements."

In a previous update at the beginning of this month, the mum said that, although her daughter has been through quite a lot, it "hasn't stopped her from smiling and being curious".

She continued: "These past weeks have shown us even more so how resilient she is, but also put our own strength into check as we have to match her determination.

"We have only begun the rehabilitation phase, and the questions regarding her future and ours are present. Despite all the mights and maybes, we have to believe in her, mainly because she does."

The fundraiser, Barróg do Chailín Beag (A Hug For A Little Girl), has raised over €90,000 since it was created – way past its original target of €500.

As explained on the fundraiser page, Barróg "is the name of the teddy who has been keeping a special school seat warm" for the little girl.

A man is before the courts in relation to the incident.

Hero creche worker Leanne Flynn Keogh, who put her life on the line to save kids during the incident, has recovered and left hospital.

Two other children injured during the incident were treated that evening but released from hospital.

Separately, a hero delivery driver who was hailed a hero after intervening in the knife attack is to run for Dublin City Council.

Caio Benicio, who was hailed as a "hero" by Senator Mary Fitzpatrick, announced on Sunday that he would be running as a Fianna Fail candidate for Dublin North Inner City.

Speaking at the Fianna Fail 1916 Commemoration at Arbour Hill, Mr Benicio said his priorities would be around road safety and immigration.

He said he will "be a voice" for immigrants and those working in the gig economy.

He said: "My motivation is I want to carry on helping people and this is where you have the power to really help people."

a greater role in his community and has decided politics is a way of doing that.

"We are very pleased he has chosen to run for Fianna Fail and we believe he will make a fine candidate for the North Inner City."

Tanaiste and Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin added that he was "delighted" Caio will contest the election.

A BRAVE rape survivor has told how her evil dad waged a 13-year sexual abuse campaign against her as a child and declared: "He stole my whole youth."

Twisted Patrick Honan, 69, was today caged for 11-and-a-half years for repeatedly raping and sexually abusing his daughter, Noreen, from the age of three to the age of 16.

The predator carried out the horror sex attacks at the family home in Doonbeg, Co Clare, between 1977 and 1989.

Traumatised daughter Noreen waived her right to anonymity to allow the beast to be named.

In a statement after the brute was banged up, courageous Noreen urged other victims of sexual abuse to speak out.

She said: "My father is Patrick Honan raped and sexually abused me from the age of three to 16 in our family home.

"He stole my whole youth.

"I have suffered mentally and physically all my life because of the abuse.

"It was only in 2017 that I became strong enough to face what he did to me head on.

"I built up the courage to take the first step, and I would like to encourage all victims of sexual violence to take the first step and come forward."

Monster dad Patrick, from Lakeview, Doonbeg, Kilrush in Co Clare, was sentenced today at the Central Criminal Court after being convicted by a jury of 48 sample counts, 25 counts of rape and 23 of indecent assault.

Ms Justice Siobhan Lankford handed the fiend a 13-year custodial sentence, with the final 18 months suspended.

A court heard the abuse started when Noreen was around three-and-a-half years of age and only stopped when she was 16.

The trial heard the dad often carried out the sexual attacks when wife was out.

Worst period of her life

Judge Lankford noted how Honan would make it clear he wanted something sexual in return if his daughter asked for money for youth clubs or other childhood activities.

Ms Honan said the worst period of her life was during her mother's last pregnancy when her mam spent 53 days in hospital and her father had uninterrupted access to her.

The last incident of rape occurred just after she finished her Junior Certificate exam in 1989.

Ms Honan said she told her mother that her father had been abusing for years.

When he was first confronted, the fiend admitted some incidents.

But Nonan later denied this happened and when he was interviewed by cops, the remorseless thug denied all the allegations.

THE mum of a 14-year-old boy left waiting FOUR YEARS for spinal surgery has told how the health system has "failed" her lad.

Paddy Murphy, who lives in Headford, Co Galway has spina bifida and scoliosis and was told back in 2020 that he would require spinal surgery to correct the curve in his back.

Paddy loves to play wheelchair basketball with the Galway Speeders

But since then, the curve in his spine has gotten worse and is now at 100 degrees — making it hard for the youngster to push his wheelchair.

Mum Megan said: "He knows well how much he's been let down and how much he's been failed."

And Paddy, who loves to play wheelchair basketball with the Galway Speeders, yesterday told The Irish Sun: "It's not fair."

Our Kids Can't Wait campaign is calling on the Government to fix waiting lists so children like Paddy get their much-needed ops ASAP.

The curve in Paddy's spine is causing him pain and discomfort.

But a doctor recently told Paddy and his family that it has progressed so much they are unsure whether he should still get surgery.

The medic told them they fear the operation could cause complications because his curve is not typical.

And Paddy, whose worsening condition is making it more difficult for him to move his chair and play wheelchair basketball, is fed up.

He told us: "I'm annoyed, I hate not knowing now if I have been left too long; if I need it I just want to get it over with.

"I can't believe I have a 100-degree curve. I'm trying to be active for my health and my lungs are not working properly and it's hard to push my chair. It's not fair."

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

Mum Megan believes that if her son had the surgery even two years ago then he would be fine.

But as they now worry about Paddy losing his movement, she declared: "There was nothing done and this is where we are at now."

He turns 15 shortly and Megan is terrified that he will age out of the Children's Health Ireland system and end up on a completely different waiting list in the adult hospitals.

She said: "If he had had regular interventions, regular appointments, regular X-rays, regular appointments with the orthopaedic surgeons — then he would absolutely have had the right care that he would have needed at the right time and he hasn't had that.

"So now, Paddy is almost 15 so the fear for us is that he's going to age out.

"Paddy would probably be one of the oldest on the spina bifida list and what CHI promised me last year is that they would send Paddy to The Portland Hospital in London.

"We didn't want to have to go abroad but the way things are we were willing to take anything with both hands and use it as a second opinion so we jumped at the chance."

Last August, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly ordered the HSE to examine sending Irish children abroad for spinal surgeries as they were being left to wait too long in Ireland.

And earlier this month, Taoiseach Simon Harris informed the Dail the new clinical lead for the CHI spinal surgery team, Dr David Moore, was looking at sending children abroad for surgeries.

However, Megan and Paddy were told last year that he would be sent to the UK capital in January.

Cancellations and delays

But this still hasn't happened — with their London appointment repeatedly cancelled and delayed.

Megan said: "They told us that they had the treatment abroad forms sent off and they have everything done and they told us we would be out there for January this year. I've emailed, contacted them and I finally got a reply from CHI that the doctor is actually on leave and is not due back until the end of April so I still have no answers as to where we are.

"More false promises, more getting our hopes up for nothing. I'm still hanging on to hope that it is going to happen but I just don't know."

Megan was initially worried about sending her son abroad for such surgery and asked a surgeon at a recent consultation in Dublin what would happen if they wanted to wait for the operation in Ireland.

    </div> </div>

She said: "I asked him straight out, if it is a thing that if we do get to Portland for surgery, what if I want my child to stay in this country to have his care and surgery here.

"He looked at my son and he said to him: 'I have to be honest with you, I might never get to you because I would have to prioritise more over you because there's a lot of children that are a lot worse off than you.'"

She added: "I know the families that are waiting and I know the agony that a lot of the kids are in.

"Paddy has pain and discomfort but there are children that are so much more worse off than him.

'Our second opinion'

"I know there were going to be kids prioritised over him. Paddy knows that — he's very intelligent and he's old enough to know. I am hanging on to Portland to hope this will be our second opinion.

"Hopefully we can get the surgery in London then too because Paddy would be quite healthy in the sense that he is still in the manual chair.

"Regular day-to-day pain relief is working for him at the minute and the way his curve is now it is not causing him agony. He's functioning, so he would be classified as fit and healthy enough to go across for surgery abroad, and the care would be here then afterwards."

Paddy is in secondary school and his mum describes him as a typical teenager that loves basketball and plays the drums.

<!--googleoff: all-->  <blockquote class="article__quote">    </blockquote>  <!--googleon: all-->

However, his condition impacts his ability to play basketball as he has recently had to move from a light wheelchair to a heavy moulded back rest which makes it more difficult to move around.

Megan said: "He never complains. He's the most easy going teenager I've ever come across. He knows if he has to get the surgery, he has to get it and if he doesn't he's just going to get on with it."

Asked about what she thinks of the health system, Megan is furious nothing has been done to end the wait list nightmare for kids — even after then Health Minister Simon Harris's 2017 promise no child would wait longer than four months for spinal surgery.

Earlier this month, The Irish Sun pressed the new Taoiseach on his broken promise to kids from 2017.

'Words mean nothing'

He promised to work with Minister Donnelly to "make sure that no child finds themselves in a scenario where they are waiting in pain and agony".

Asked what she thought of the Taoiseach's new promise, Megan said: "It is a fantastic comment. I just hope he can follow up on it. What more can anyone say to that? If he delivers on that, I think we will all be very happy but words mean nothing to us anymore as parents. They mean nothing.

"Actions speak louder than words and we have to see the actions because we haven't seen any of them yet. All we can do is hang on to hope every single day because if we don't have hope, we've nothing."

FINGAL County Council has delivered 'a knock out blow' to plans by Conor McGregor for a boutique style seaside hotel for Howth in north county Dublin.

The council has refused planning permission to G Boppers Ltd for the 35 bedroom hotel after a wave of local opposition with one local woman raising concerns that the hotel may be an Ibiza-style party venue.

G Boppers Ltd was seeking planning permission to demolish a part four storey and part-two storey building and in their place construct a part five-storey and part four-storey terraced building on the site of the The Waterside Bar, Harbour Road and Church Street, Howth.

The scheme was to include a pub and restaurant and boutique hotel bedrooms on the second, third and fourth floors including a 122 sq metre residents' terrace area.

Now, in a refusal on two grounds, the council has, taking into account the location of the hotel at Church Street, Howth and the preserved view along the street, concluded that the proposal "would interfere with the character of the landscape or with a view or prospect of special amenity value or natural interest or beauty".

The council also found that the development proposal would adversely affect an Architectural Conservation Area (ACA) and contravene the Fingal Co Development Plan.

The planning authority refused the scheme on these grounds after finding that there was an absence of a high quality architectural approach to justify demolishing an existing significant building within the ACA taken in conjunction with the design, scale, mass and height of the planned hotel.

The most recent accounts for G Boppers Ltd show that in 2022, McGregor Sports and Entertainment Ltd provided €2.24m in interest free funding to the firm.

During the same period, G Boppers Ltd acquired land and buildings with a book value of €2.08m.

A Design Report lodged with the application by Prof Cathal O'Neill + Company Architects contended that the scheme "seeks to make appropriate use of the site which has been under-utilised for many years and to provide guest accommodation which is sorely needed in the area".

Architect with the firm, Garrett O'Neill told the council that "local social media laments the loss of hotels including the St Lawrence Hotel, Royal Hotel, Sutton Castle, Howth Lodge and, in the more distant past, the Waverly Hotel.

"Currently, the Booking.com website lists only one B&B and one Guest House on Howth Head."

Mr O'Neill stated that the design of the proposed scheme "retains the existing public house use which is known to be well over one hundred years old, and to have a related restaurant which avails of the picturesque location and views".

Advancing the case for the hotel, Mr O'Neill said: "We believe the proposed hotel use is respectful of the scale and massing of the existing townscape and integrates well with the urban grain."

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

He contended that "the proposed mix of long established public house use with the traditionally complementary accommodation function, could not be more appropriate to this sea-side location."

However, local resident Monica Lambert told the Council that she strongly objected "to the unprecedented large roof garden/beer garden".

She said: "While it is softly couched as a garden for residents it will without doubt be used as a beer and party garden reminiscent of Ibiza parties."

Ms Lambert said: "This is a quiet residential area and the current proposal is unprecedented and wholly out of character with a quiet residential area."

In total, the Council received 19 third party submissions.
P&L Rickard of Dunbo Hill, Howth told the council that the proposal is "out of scale" "oversized" and "nondescript".

Noel Loftus told the council that he resides next door to the proposed hotel and while there are many aspects of the proposed development that he welcomes he was limiting his "strong objection" to just one aspect – "the large outdoor terraced balcony".

The St Lawrence Quay Management Ltd represents 18 apartment owners on Harbour Rd.

On their behalf, company secretary, Brona Carton told the Council that the proposed roof terrace for hotel residents' use will result in an increase in noise in the area creating a nuisance for local residential and which may continue late into the night.

The objection added: "The high level roof terrace will overlook domestic properties in the area, including their gardens and terraces.

"This will result in the loss of privacy for those properties including the St Lawrence Quay development."
