McMahon left his position as CEO and Chairman of the board in June 2022, pledging in a press release to cooperate with the continued investigation and "accept the findings and consequence." He finally returned as a board member six months later in January 2023, agreeing to reimburse WWE for any expenses pertaining to the investigation. Based on an SEC assertion the following August, McMahon has since paid roughly $17.4 million to cover the prices.

Relating to the 2024 lawsuit, McMahon vehemently denied all claims.

"This lawsuit is replete with lies, obscene made-up situations that by no means occurred, and a vindictive distortion of the truth. He will vigorously defend himself," a spokesperson for McMahon advised Us Weekly in a press release.
