Rory McIlroy on Brooks Koepka in TGL: '(I) would love him to play'

Rory McIlroy said he has no qualms about the prospect of Brooks Koepka joining TGL.

And McIlroy's voice likely holds some water given that he is a co-founder of the indoor golf simulation league along with Tiger Woods.

As for Koepka, he has newfound availability following his departure from LIV Golf, the upstart circuit where he has played for the last three years. LIV announced on Dec. 23 that Koepka would be leaving the league because he was "prioritizing the needs of his family."

So would Koepka be welcome in TGL?

"I would say that's up to people that are more powerful and more important than me. But I am one of the founders. I would love him to play," McIlroy said on Friday after his Boston Common Golf team recorded a 7-5 win over Los Angeles Golf Club.

"If there's space on a team for Brooks to come and play, it only makes what we're trying to do stronger. He's a five-time major champion. He's been one of the best players of our generation. If he decides it's something that he wants to do, I'm sure we'll find a way to include him."

McIlroy's comments came on the heels of his appearance on "The Overlap" podcast earlier on Friday. He said on the podcast that he wouldn't object to LIV stars joining the PGA Tour.

"I think they've already paid their consequence. They've made the money but they've paid their consequence in terms of the reputation and some of the things they've lost by going over there," McIlroy said. "If it made the overall tour stronger to have Bryson DeChambeau back and whoever else, I would be OK with it.

"But it's not just me, and I recognize that not everyone is in my position. It would be up to the collective group of PGA Tour members to make that decision."

Theo Johnson's appearance at Knicks game raises questions after Giants TE was ruled out of Week 18 with an illness

Early Friday afternoon, the New York Giantsreleased their final injury reportfor Week 18 and tight end Theo Johnson was listed as "out" with an illness for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Hours later, Johnson was shown on the Madison Square Garden scoreboard while attending theNew York Knicks game against the Atlanta Hawks. That appearance raised questions about how the second-year tight end could be out in public despite being set to miss the Giants' season finale in two days.

Johnson eventook to Instagram on Friday nightand posted a story with the caption, "I am not sick."

This wasn't a case of the tanking theory that the Giants were keeping players out for a second straight week in hopes of oflanding the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. According to the team, Johnson is dealing with a non-contagious infection, "not the flu or COVID, where being around other people is a risk."

Interim head coach Mike Kafka was asked Thursday about Johnson's week-long stay on the injury report with an illness. "So he's just still got a little bit of a sickness and just infection that we're just working through. So he's just kind of trying to clean it up, see where it goes,"he said.

Johnson was one of six Giants ruled out for Week 18, along with cornerback Cor'Dale Flott, safety Jevón Holland, offensive lineman Evan Neal, defensive lineman Rakeem Nuñez-Roches Sr. and wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson.

The Giants needed to lose to the Las Vegas Raiders last week to secure the No. 1 pick. They did not, winning 34-10. Despite that, they still have a chance to own the top selection, but they need help in Week 18.

On Sunday, theGiants need to lose to the Cowboys, have the Raiders beat the Kansas City Chiefs, and get 1 1/2 combined wins (a tie equals half a win) from the Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks.

Panthers vs. Buccaneers score, live updates: Baker Mayfield, Bryce Young meet in clash for NFC South division title

The 2025 season hascome down to the wire for the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

With a win or tie, the Panthers will be crowned NFC South champions, clinching the No. 4 seed and a home playoff game in the wild-card round. It would mark their first division title since the 2015 season, when Carolina went all the way to Super Bowl 50 with Cam Newton at quarterback, eventually losing to the Denver Broncos.

Carolina (8-8) has lost two of its last three since its bye week in Week 14. They had an opportunity to clinch the division last week and failed miserably, losing to Seattle, 27-10. Now the Panthers need to win or tie on the road to punch that postseason ticket; otherwise, their path to the playoffs looks a lot murkier. ThePanthers took the first matchup just a couple of weeks agobetween these rivals, 23-20 in Charlotte.

Tampa Bay has been free-falling in thesecond half of the season and has won just one gamesince its Week 9 bye. Despite the implosion, the Buccaneers can still win the NFC South and make the playoffs as the No. 4 seed, but they'll need a little help. The Bucs need to beat the Panthers, but also need the Atlanta Falcons to lose to the New Orleans Saints in Week 18.
