Last night, stars gathered in Los Angeles for the sixth annual Academy Museum Gala. The soirée honors the work of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, raising money in support of its mission to preserve film history for future generations. This year’s celebrity guest list included Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, the Fanning sisters, Kate Hudson, A$AP Rocky, Cole Escola, and so many more.

Hollywood glamour was the apt, if unofficial, theme for this red carpet, which is rapidly becoming one to watch. Hunter Schafer nodded to the silver screen with a look reminiscent of Anita Ekberg in La Dolce Vita—but with a bit of Prada flair. She wore a black, floor-length strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline. The skirt parted at the upper thigh with a slit trimmed in ribbon to reveal a contrasting white material underneath.

Kim Kardashian revived archival Balenciaga from 1951: a strapless, pastel-hued silk gown with confectionery embroidery and embellishment and a wrapped sash trailing from the bust. She accessorized with a Leviev diamond collar necklace and a retro bouffanted updo. Kendall Jenner reimagined polka dots in custom Valentino. The monochromatic look featured three different iterations of the classic pattern: classic dots covered the bodice, blown-up sequin versions coated the skirt, and teeny-tiny ones blanketed her kitten heel pumps. As for Inde Navarrette, she subverted traditional glamour in her flesh-toned Schiaparelli dress with plasticky dots and a bulbous tiered skirt.

Even today’s It girls in runway-favorite designers—Greta Lee in a 1920s-style beaded sheath from Jonathan Anderson’s Dior; Chanel girls Hailey Bieber and Alexa Demie in new looks by Matthieu Blazy—wove in elements of reimagined retro glamour. Fortunately, it wasn’t a stale, frozen-in-time version of elegance, but a contemporary cool take on Hollywood iconography.

Ahead, we’ve rounded up our favorite looks from last night’s Academy Museum Gala.
