'Love is Blind' star Alex talks Trump comments, being called a liar

Once again, a "Love is Blind" cast member has waded into political waters.

USA TODAY

Alex Henderson, a 31-year-old whose soccer career ended after several knee surgeries and now does day trading and podcasting, hinted at his political leanings in several scenes in Season 10 (see: his desire to move to Florida or Arizona, which both went in PresidentDonald Trump's favor in 2024).

But as he experienced a grilling on his career, family dynamics and recent voting record from fiancéeAshley Carpenter's dad in Episode 7, Alex became more explicit about his stance.

"Did you vote for Trump?" Ashley's dad, Paul Carpenter, asked point-blank during Alex's first meeting with Ashley's parents and brother over dinner.

Alex Henderson meets fiancée Ashley Carpenter's family on Season 10, Episode 7, of "Love is Blind."

"I didn't vote, but I would've voted for Trump," Alex responded. "I'm absolutely conservative though, without a doubt, and I'm happy that he won."

Each season, at least one cast member opens up to their partner – and, by reality TV proxy, the world – about their beliefs on topics such as social issues (see the Minneapolis season'sBen and Sara), reproductive rights (Nancy and Bartisefrom the Dallas season), American politics (Monica and Stephenfrom Washington, D.C.) and the LGBTQ community (Denver'sNick Amato and Annie Lancaster).

So how did Alex feel about broadcasting that ballot he would have cast in the 2024 presidential election?

"I know my political stance. It's one of those that I feel very comfortable sharing," Alex tells USA TODAY. "I do tell [Ashley's family], I'm pretty aligned with what you're saying here. I feel this is not the environment or a place to share your political stances realistically, when it's just to see who you are."

'Love is Blind' season 10 is headed to Ohio: See the cast

Ohio is taking overseason 10 of "Love is Blind.""We haven't really done this in the Midwest, but more important, the host of our show, Nick Lachey, was raised in Cincinnati," the show's casting director Donna Driscolltold The Columbus Dispatch, part of USA TODAY Network. Here's a look at every new cast member.

'I was very honest the entire process'

During the dinner, Alex is accused of lying about his grandparents' 50-year marriage. Paul casts doubt on the timeline – Alex's grandfather was 67 when he passed – as well as the origins of their romance, which saw Alex's grandmother fall "in love with his voice over the phone."

"What I remember vividly is looking down at my plate and seeing the steak that I had just ordered and then being accused of lying because I looked down at the plate," Alex says. "I've met my girlfriend's parents before a couple times, and I have never had an experience like that. It was one of those where I definitely felt like I was on the witness stand for no real reason."

He continues, "I'll respond in the ways that I feel comfortable doing, but I'm not here to try and switch someone's opinion of me. If you don't like me, you don't like me. And that's OK."

Ashley Carpenter and fiancé Alex Henderson on Season 10, Episode 6, of "Love is Blind."

Paul, the self-proclaimed Carpenter family patriarch and a former attorney who's used to handling divorces, told producers afterward that his potential future son-in-law was "impressive" and "smart."

But he doubted Alex's intentions. "I'm not saying he's a bad person, but I don't think honesty is his strength," he tells the cameras.

Alex's response? "I don't really care about other people's opinions of me. I'm very confident in who I am as a person."

He adds, "I was very honest the entire process. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. He has his, and that's fantastic."
