Ex-NFL star Antonio Brown pleaded not guilty on Tuesday through his attorney to an attempted murder charge in Miami, the Associated Press reports.
Brown was extradited on Friday from Dubai to New Jersey to face the charge that stemmed from a shooting in May at influencer Adin Ross's boxing event in Miami. Per the AP, Brown was transported to Miami on Tuesday to face the charge.
His lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, told the AP that he entered a written not guilty plea on Brown's behalf. Per Eiglarsh, Brown could face a bond hearing in Miami as early as Wednesday morning.
What Brown's accused of
Brown, 37,was briefly detained by Miami police after gunshots were firedoutside of the May 16 boxing event early the next morning.
Video posted on social mediashowed Brown involved in a fistfight with several people outside of the event. A man that police later identified as Brown was then seen pursuing someone with what looked like a pistol in his hand. Shots were then heard off camera.
No injuries were initially reported, and Brown was not arrested after police say that they did not find a weapon on the scene when they detained him. But further information was revealed upon a police investigation, and an arrest warrant was issued for Brown.
Per the warrant, a man named Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu told police in a May 21 statement that one of the bullets fired that morning grazed his neck. Nantambu was identified as the man with whom Brown had gotten into a fistfight prior to the shooting. The warrant states that Brown grabbed the gun off a security officer, chased Nantambu and fired two shots at him.
Brown's account
Brown provided his account of the events on social media later that morning and claimed that he was jumped.

Brown's social media post made no mention of gunshots.
Police were not initially able to locate Brown after issuing the warrant, and Brown did not turn himself in. ButBrown's own social media postsindicated that he'd been living in Dubai for the last several months, and he was arrested in Dubai last week and extradited to the United States.
Brown's defense
Eiglarsh told the AP on Tuesday that Brown acted in self-defense the night of the shooting.
"The actions he was forced to take were solely in self-defense against the alleged victim's violent behavior," Eiglarsh said. "Brown was attacked that night and acted within his legal right to protect himself."
Brown faces a second-degree murder charge that carries a maximum 15-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000 if he's convicted.
From All-Pro to attempted murder charge
Brown played 12 NFL seasons from 2020-21 and was one of the NFL's best wide receivers at his peak. He made seven Pro Bowls and was an All-Pro for five consecutive seasons during a nine-year stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Brown has faced multiple civil and criminal issues during and since the conclusion of his career. He wasaccused of rape in a lawsuit filedby his former trainer in 2019. That case was eventually settled out of court, and Brown did not face criminal charges.
In 2022,Brown was ordered to pay $1.2 million in damagesto a delivery driver that he allegedly assaulted outside of his Florida home.Brown previously pleaded no contestto multiple criminal charges stemming from that incident and was sentenced to two years probation.
