Broadway legend Chita Rivera died on Tuesday, January 30. She was 91.

"It is with immense private sorrow that I announce the dying of the beloved Broadway icon Chita Rivera," her publicist Merle Frimark shared in a press release to Us Weekly. "My pricey good friend of over 40 years was 91."

Rivera's daughter, Lisa Mordente, revealed that Rivera "died peacefully" in New York "after a quick illness" in a separate assertion.

"She can also be survived by her siblings Julio, Armando and Lola del Rivero, (her older sister Carmen predeceased her), alongside together with her many nieces, nephews and pals. Her funeral might be personal," Frimark's statement continued. "A memorial service shall be announced sooner or later. Lisa respectfully requests privacy presently." Rivera was married to Lisa's father, dancer Tony Mordente, from 1957 to 1966.

Mordente also shared that any donations in Rivera's memory could be made to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Rivera (born Dolores Conchita Figueroa del Rivero) had a career that spanned over 70 years. The Washington, D.C., native originated the position of Anita in Broadway's West Side Story in 1957. Almost 20 years later, she originated the position of Velma Kelly in Chicago during its Broadway debut in 1975 and made a cameo within the 2002 movie model.

Through the years, Rivera has also appeared in Broadway productions of Bye Bye Birdie, Merlin, The Rink, Jerry's Women, Kiss of the Spider Lady, 9, The Thriller of Edwin Drood and The Visit.

She additionally appeared in movie variations of Candy Charity and Tick, Tick… Growth! as well as TV exhibits including The Carol Burnett Present and Will & Grace, among others.
